Mexico’s wine region—discovered

Ensenada is the gateway to the Guadalupe, Santo Tomas, Calafia and San Vincente valleys, which produce 90% of Mexico’s wines. The region is blessed with a mild climate featuring sun-soaked days and cooling ocean breezes at night—perfect conditions for growing wine grapes. Originally cultivated by missionaries as early as 1791 and now mastered by modern, state-of-the-art winemakers, northern Baja is quickly earning a reputation as one of the world’s premier wine producers—reminiscent of Napa Valley before it was fully discovered. Most of the region’s wineries are a short drive from Ensenada and offer daily tours and tastings. Each August, vineyards and wineries celebrate the harvest season with La Fiesta de Las Vendimias, where wine, food and music are enjoyed by both visitors and locals.
